Vials

The NOVAPREP® unique vials and preservative media are designed to optimize the cellular material required for cytology and molecular tests. The unique preservative maintains the cellular integrity of the sample by keeping the cellular suspension, and notably the red blood cells, intact. The sample is in the same state when analyzed as it was when it was collected.

The cap is unique as it will automatically reseal itself following puncture. The sample therefore remains isolated from external micro-particles (viruses, bacteria, spores, etc.).

The NOVAPREP® HQ+ orange, NOVAPREP® HQ+ Grey and NOVAPREP® HQ+ White vials are leak-proof containers intended for human sample fixation and transportation.

Gyn Vial

The NOVAPREP® HQ+ Orange Gyn vial can be identified by its orange cap which hold smear samples and utilizes the integrated cell extraction system to enhance the number of cells collected from the smear. The unique design includes a collection grid with a rough surface to remove the cells from the large flat brushes. It also has a ridged bend to remove cells from swab brushes. To further enhance the release of cells from the brush, there is a feature in the vial that facilitates the removal of the head of the sampling brush which minimizes the loss of the sample. This type of vial is mainly used for cervical cancer smears.

Preparation and collection of gynecological samples

  • Insert the central bristles of the brush into the endocervical canal to place the lateral bristles in contact with the ectocervix.
  • Maintain gentle pressure on the cervix.
  • Rotate the brush 3 turns in a clockwise direction.

  • Hold the base of the vial firmly.
  • Crush the head of the brush against the collection grid and rub 3 times.

  • Detach the handle from the brush by pulling upward and holding firmly onto the base of the vial.
  • Discard the handle in an appropriate biohazard receptacle.

  • Shake vigorously, 3 times.
  • Label the vial and the order form with the relevant patient information and place all items (vial and order form) in the sample pouch for transport to the laboratory.
  • Insert the brush into the endocervical canal until only the lowest bristles are exposed.
  • Rotate slowly five turns in a clockwise direction.

  • Place the head of the brush in the vial at the plastic U-shaped elbow.
  • Slide it 6 times from top to bottom in the U-shaped elbow.
  • Discard the brush after this operation in an appropriate biohazard receptacle.

Non gyn vial

The Non-Gyn vial has a gray cap which stores samples for cytology taken with a thin needle (Fine Needle Aspiration). The sample can be directly deposited into the vial by puncturing the cap. The addition of the cellular preservative to the needle (which is done in secure conditions) aids the transfer of sample into the vial. This vial is mainly used for organ punctures (Fine Needle Aspiration).

The NOVAPREP® HQ+ Grey cap vials are used for the preservation and transportation of non-brushed cell samples and sample of volumes lower than 8mL. The NOVAPREP® HQ+ White vials are used for the preservation and transportation of non-brushed cell samples and for sample volume lower than 100mL
